~ Starting a Study Group ~

Discovery Bible Studies

David Watson and CityTeam have developed a series of studies that lead a group from Creation to Christ.  By starting at Creation, the study helps build a proper framework of who God is, how our sin separates us from God, the need for a perfect sacrifice, the person and character of Christ, and His sacrifice for us.  The concept behind this approach is important.  We recommend reading the book Miraculous Movements by Jerry Trousdale.  In it, he outlines the strategy that we are following and gives incredible stories and examples of how God has used this strategy to bring people to himself.

You can also find information about Discovery Bible Studies here and articles by David Watson on a wide variety of topics here.

We have also used the T4T (Training for Training) method and structure.  This is a different version of the Discovery Bible Study method with a similar structure, just presented in a slightly different way.  We begin with a series of stories that take the group from Creation through the story of Christ.  It highlights key stories in the Old Testament (Creation through Moses) and then transitions into the story of Christ.   There are a number of possible curriculum choices that also follow this pattern.  The goal is to systematically take them through basic stories, building a foundation of understanding who God is, who man is, the concept and consequesnces of sin, and ultimately God’s gift of Jesus as our sacrifice.  By following a pattern of meeting, studying, asking questions, making applications, and calling for obedience, the group learns a simple way to study the Bilbe and do church.
